Matano doesn't fear axe

Nairobi - Robert Matono, the Tusker Football Club head coach, is confident of keeping his job despite the side failing to defend its title.
With the side having lost contention as Gor Mahia inch closer to a first title in 18 years, the mentor has already set his sights on the next season.
“My boys failed to muster the skills to outfox other title contenders but I am optimistic the brewers’ hierarchy will keep faith in me as I rebuild for next season’s campaign,” said Matono, also nicknamed The Lion.
Matano nonetheless was realistic and said he would welcome any decision the team’s management would take but believed that he would be allowed to complete the two years remaining on his contract.
He blamed his players for having the “wrong attitude” and lacking commitment, which he insisted, had cost the team the league title.
Tusker edged out Gor Mahia on the very last match that saw them lift the title last season.
But the tides have changed in favour of Gor this season.
Earlier this season, Matono changed almost the entire squad that worn last year’s title, a decision he says he does not regret.
