Machakos all set for weekend KPL double header

21 February 2014, 12:42

Nairobi - Machakos Stadium will host two matches in the Kenyan Premier League over the weekend, with Gor Mahia  and others in town.

Sofapaka will take on SoNy Sugar, with Mathare United welcoming Gor Mahia, both on Sunday.

Special arrangements for fan safety and security for the two KPL matches in Machakos this Sunday have been confirmed by the Government of Machakos County and both host clubs.

For example, no tickets will be sold at Machakos Stadium. Instead, tickets will only be sold on the day of the match from 8:00 a.m. at the following two locations: [1] on the road to Machakos just after the turnoff from Mombasa Road and [2] in Machakos town near the old Naivas Supermarket.

No tickets will be sold in Nairobi so fans should not purchase any tickets in the city because the original tickets all have security features to avoid forgeries. Anyone found selling or even carrying forged tickets will be arrested.

VIP tickets will retail at Ksh 500 while the terraces tickets will be Ksh 200. A total of 12,000 tickets are available for sale: 10,000 for the terraces and 2,000 for the VIP.

Security will be tight both in and outside the stadium and also at the Machakos/Mombasa Road turnoff. Fans from Nairobi will not be allowed to proceed to Machakos town without a genuine ticket.

As the drive from Nairobi to Machakos takes around one hour, fans from Nairobi should plan to depart from the city at least 2-3 hours before the scheduled kick off time.

A large number of regular and Administration Police officers as well as trained guard dog units have been assigned to ensure the safety and security of all fans. Plain clothes police officers will also be strategically placed among the fans in different parts of the stadium.

The police will ensure no one enters the stadium with any prohibited substances, weapons or potent-ial weapons, canisters containing tear gas or other harmful chemicals, alcoholic drinks and any obj-ects that could become dangerous projectiles (e.g. drinks in cans or bottles, fireworks, etc)

In addition, the stadium is fully fitted with CCTV cameras which will be used to identify, arrest and prosecute anyone who is unwise enough to attempt to cause any disturbances before, during or after the matches. For those few who might be tempted to do so, they should note that the GK Prison in Machakos is conveniently located only a few metres from the stadium.

The Government of Machakos County, led by the Governor, His Excellency Dr. Alfred Mutua, as well as the Sports Minister, the Hon. Faith Kithu, have assured all genuine fans of a warm welcome as well as safe and secure enjoyment of these two inaugural KPL matches in their newly renovated and expanded Machakos Stadium. Both plan to attend the match.

FKF Chairman Sam Nyamweya, KPL Chairman Ambrose Rachier and other special guests will also attend.
