Luiz: Brazil starting from scratch
12 June 2014, 16:22
Sao Paulo - Brazil defender David Luiz says his team’s success at last year’s Confederations Cup will be of little consequence when the World Cup begins on Thursday night.
The Brazilian defender is proud of what the host nation achieved at last year’s tournament but insists that the only thing on everybody’s mind at this juncture is winning a sixth World Cup crown.
"In football, past results don't count. So, we are trying to forget what happened a year ago [in the Confederations Cup]... and concentrate on the job at hand," Luiz told Goal.com this week.
"The World Cup is a different tournament, in fact, [it is] the biggest of the tournaments. Yes, it was great to be champions of the Confederations Cup. It would just be great to repeat that success," added Luiz.
"There's tremendous excitement. Playing in the World Cup is a dream for every footballer and it is a great moment for me. It cannot get bigger than that."
