Leopards struggle in season opener

20 February 2014, 10:23

Nairobi - KCB nearly burst AFC Leopards’ bubble in a tightly contested league match that ended in a one-all draw at Nyayo Stadium.

KCB, who threatened to overrun their CAF Confederations Cup representatives found the target first through Francis Ouma in the eight minute.

But the AFC Leopards could not be intimidated as they sensed danger of losing three crucial points as they upped their attack towards the end of the match resulting in Jacob Keli scoring an equalizer to force the draw late into the game.

After the equaliser, AFC Leopards took away the match from their opponents but could not find the final sucker puncher to give them the win that matters most as strikers kept on fluffing chances in front of goal.

As if that was not enough, the team missed a penalty in the 85th minute, a development which could have given them a deserved 2-1 victory, but spot-taker James Situma fumbled the ball over the bar to deny his side the win.

AFC Leopards, who were expected to carry on with their winning streak following their commendable job in Ethiopia against Ethiopia Defence in the CAF competition, were shadows of their former selves in their first Premiership encounter of the season.
