Leopards out of Charity Cup: Nandwa

22 January 2014, 11:31

Nairobi - AFC Leopards head coach James Nandwa says the club will not take part in the 2014 Kenya Power Charity Cup.

The club missed out on a place in the tourney in 2013 after they were out voted by fans of Gor Mahia, Sofapaka, Western Stima and Mathare United.

So far though, Leopards are leading the pack as regards voting this time roound and are favourites to make the competition.

That said, Nandwa has confirmed that they will not take part in the Charity Cup due to a spate of injuries that have hit the club and especially with their CAF Confederations Cup campaign not too far away.

" We will not take part in the Charity Cup, he said.

" There are far too many injuries to key players as well as fitness concerns with the squad as a whole. I do not think it will be wise to take part in the competition.

" I would like to make it but we play Defence in the Confederations Cup less than a week after the competition and if you ask, which one is more important?

" You can answer that question yourself, he added.

Leopards play Defence on February 9, 2013 with the Charity Cup just four days earlier.
