Birmingham - Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has issued a hands-off
warning to clubs interested in signing Netherlands international Ron Vlaar.
The 29-year-old, who has a year remaining on his current
contract, has emerged as a transfer target for new Southampton manager Ronald
Koeman following an impressive showing at the World Cup in Brazil.
The Villa skipper has also been linked with the likes of
Queens Park Rangers and Manchester United, but Lambert insists the defender is
not for sale.
And Lambert is confident that Vlaar will commit his future
to the Villa Park outfit in the not-too-distant future.
He told The Sun: "Ron is not only an Aston Villa
player, he is our captain.
"He has one year remaining on his contract and he is
"We will be talking with him in due course about
extending his deal and we are confident those talks will be positive.
"Ron has always said that he is really happy here and
has done nothing to suggest anything has changed.
"None of this speculation is coming from him, or anyone
connected with him.
"We aren't selling. It is as simple as that."
Vlaar joined Aston Villa from Dutch side Feyenoord in the
summer of 2012 and has gone on to notch up 53 appearances, scoring two goals.
