Kiprop targets world record

Nairobi - Asbel Kiprop is confident he can break the 1500 metre world record at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing.
The two-time world champion narrowly missed the 3:26.00 mark held by
Hicham El Guerrouj, as he coasted to victory at the Monaco Diamond
League meeting last week, setting a personal best of 3:26.69.
Kiprop now has his sights set on breaking the Morrocan's time, a
record that has stood for 17 years, and is confident he will do it at
the Beijing National Stadium next month.
“My recent performance in Monaco has given me the impetus to achieve
my long cherished dream. I am sure I can shave off the 0.69 micro
seconds at the World Championships in Beijing," the former Olympic
champion is quoted as saying by the Star.
“I know the track very well and it is one of the best in terms of
posting better time performances. However, I need to qualify for the
finals first before plotting for the record,”.
