Kalekwa nips rumours in the bud

Nairobi - Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa said reports which suggested that he was no longer in control of the club, were baseless and unjustified.
The reports had indicated that Kalekwa and his family were relocating to Europe and that had he had left the running of the club in the hands of Italian businessman Andrea Mencarelli, which sparked some panic and uncertainty.
Kalekwa has since confirmed that Mencarelli was employed as a general manager at Sofapaka but stopped short of saying that the GM had assumed complete control of the club.
"That is all nonsense. I am still in charge and I am not just the chairman, I am the owner of Sofapaka FC and I have not relocated to Europe as they claim," Kalekwa told futaa.com on Wednesday.
"My family is in Kenya and a lot of my investments are in Kenya so all these reports are untrue. I am just out of the country to take care of some business."

Kalekwa said the rumours about an imminent departure were circulated in an attempt to destabilise the club during the business end of the season. Sofapaka are currently second on the Premier League standings, just one point behind Gor Mahia - a club which commands a huge presence in Kenyan football.
"The said Italian is our General Manager and nothing closer to what the reports purport. I think it is a ploy to try and derail the team towards the end of the season," added Kalekwa.
