KPL weekly round up: Gor stays top

12 May 2014, 09:32

Nairobi - The Kenya Premier League is taking shape with usual frontrunners maintaining their positions at the top of the table and candidates for relegation struggling at the bottom.

This follows results of the past weekend when defending champions Gor Mahia narrowly dismissed Sofapaka 2-1 in a match played at City Stadium on Saturday.

Gor Mahia, who are the log leaders, grabbed their vital two goals through Dan Sserunkuma and Rama Salim while Sofapaka scored first through Patrick Kagogo.

In another match tightly-contested on Saturday, Western Stima and Chemelil Sugar drew 1-1 while third positioned Tusker Football Club massacred Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) 3-1 in this one sided encounter in Meru on Sunday.

Tusker grabbed their crucial goals courtesy of Clifford Akwanga, Brian Osumba and Jesse Were while KRA pulled a goal back through Philemon Otieno.

Muhoroni Youth brew a shocker on Sunday when they narrowly edged Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) 1-0 to at Nyayo National Stadium.

The only goal of the day came from the penalty spot kick by Nigerian forward Abbas Akinyemi in the 45th minute condemned KCB to the 15th position at the bottom of the 16-team league log.

Elsewhere, eighth- placed Ulinzi Stars narrowly beat Top Fry Stars 1-0 at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru to condemn them to the bottom of the league log standing.

The solitary goal by Job Muhati in the 31st minute boosted Ulinzi Stars' to move one place up the ladder while Sony Sugar and Bandari remained on 10th and 11th positions on the log following a 1-1 draw at Mombasa County Stadium.

Sony Sugar scored through Samuel Onyango in the first half while Bandari replied through Abdulatiff Omar from the penalty spot late in the game.
