KPL takes another weekend breather

13 May 2014, 11:51

Nairobi - The Kenya Premier League (KPL) has released its forthcoming fixture for next week on Wednesday, but could not reveal why there are no league matches lined-up for this weekend.

However, the exciting midweek league games will pit top of the table clash between log leaders Gor Mahia and close rivals Chemelil Sugar at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

Chemelil Sugar are on second position of the league log standing.

The eagerly-awaited match kicks-off at 1500 local time with fireworks expected as both clubs are eyeing the 2014 Kenyan premiership title.

Gor Mahia, who will be away from home are likely to find the on-form Chemelil Sugar in an uncompromising position as they will be seeking the three crucial points in order to reduce the defending champions' lead on top of the league log table.

Presently Gor Mahia leads the Kenya's 16-team league log standing with 26 points from 12 games played to date while Chemelil Sugar are on second position with 22 points from the same number of games contested.

Both clubs have potential match winning players, but the final outcome of the 90 minutes of regulation time will depend on the formation both coaches would implement.

Elsewhere, third placed Tusker Football Club travels to City Stars for a crucial tie at Hope Centre in a do-or-die encounter.

City Stars, who are threatened with relegation at the end of the season would always want to capitalise on their home advantage to beat Tusker, an ambition that will prove difficult judging by Tusker' current form.

Vastly-improved Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) will host the unpredictable Thika United at Nyayo National Stadium.

KRA are on 4th position of the league table with 20 points from 12 matches played while United lie tenth with 15 points from the same number of games played.

Sofapaka, who lost dismally to defending champions Gor Mahia over the weekend would always want to redeem themselves when they host stubborn Bandari  at Machakos Stadium.

Sofapaka are on fifth position of the league table with 18 points from 12 league games contested while Bandari are on 11th place with 14 points from 12 matches played.
Muhoroni Youth, who brew a shocker on Sunday when they beat Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) 1-0 to at Nyayo National Stadium hope to capitalise on the home advantage when they host Ulinzi Stars at Muhoroni Stadium.

The last match will pit bottom-placed Top Fry Nakuru against hosting team Mathare United at Machakos Stadium.

Mathare United, who are on 13th position with 13 points would always want to win this crucial encounter in order to get themselves out of the relegation zone while Top Fry Nakuru, who anchor the table with five points from 12 games, are keen to start picking up points to stay in the top flight football league next season.
