KPL results leave sour taste on Chemelil Sugar

22 May 2014, 10:11

Nairobi - The latest round of the Kenya Premier League matches ends on Thursday afternoon with Chemelil Sugar under pressure to claw their way back into contention for the league title as they face leaders Gor Mahia in what was until Wednesday billed a top-of-the-table clash.

The results on Wednesday bumped the Sugar company-sponsored outfit out of second position into fourth.

They are now behind second-positioned Tusker and third-placed Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) who were impressive on Wednesday.

Playing before their home crowd today, Chemelil Sugar would require a straight victory against defending champions if they are to retain their second position in this encounter that promises  a thriller.

On the other hand, visiting Gor Mahia will ensure that they would not drop any points in this campaign if ever seeks to defend their premiership title.

The Chemelil Sugar versus Gor Mahia encounter is being dubbed the match of the week considering the two sides have emerged top contenders for this year's premiership title.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Tusker moved two places up the ladder to second spot after narrowly edging City Stars 1-0 in a tightly contested match at Nairobi City Stadium.

Brian Osumba grabbed the solitary but important goal of the match as Tusker continues to pile pressure on the log leaders.

Not to be outdone KRA beat visiting Thika United 2-1 to move to the third spot in a match played at Nyayo National Stadium.

KRA scored their goals through Roosvelt Blatty and Edwin Misiko while Thika got theirs from the boot of Michael Olunga.

Sofapaka recorded the biggest victory on Wednesday thumping Bandari 3-0 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Sofapaka scored their important goals through Ekaliana Ndolo and a brace by John Barasa.

There was only a single draw in the five premiership encounters contested across the country on Wednesday with bottom of the log Top Fry holding Mathare United to a 1-1 draw in a league match played at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
