Iniesta ready for 'final'

18 June 2014, 11:35

Sao Paulo - Andres Iniesta says Spain need to approach Wednesday's clash against Chile as if it were "a final" if they are to get their World Cup title defence back on track.

La Furia Roja were left with their tails between their legs on Friday after crashing to a 5-1 defeat against the Netherlands in their Group B opener at Arena Fonte Nova.

Vicente del Bosque's men next face the Chileans in desperate need of the three points to prevent an early exit in Brazil, and Barcelona superstar Iniesta hopes the XI men picked to contest this week's tie can dig deep and find the inspiration needed to secure the result.

"Chile are a difficult team because we'll have to defend and we'll have to fight one against one," he said.

"We just hope those who play tomorrow (Wednesday) will be able to escape from their markers so we can find a way to win.

"We must be able to make the right passes, and look for those in space, so we can score goals.

"Sometimes we'll have to be faster, other times we'll have to control the ball, but we'll just play it as a final, because only in that way will we be able to win against Chile.

"Our only goal right now is winning so we can go to the next phase. But we trust ourselves and we're well equipped for that."
