Rio De Janeiro - Germany defender Mats Hummels has cast doubt on his
participation in the World Cup final after revealing he needs "intensive
treatment" on his knee.
The 25-year-old aggravated the injury he sustained in his side's
Group G opener against Portugal, coming off at half-time during Tuesday's 7-1
demolition of Brazil in the semi-finals.
Hummels missed Die Mannschaft's 2-1 win over Algeria in the
last-16 due to flu, but was back in the starting line-up five days later for
the quarter-final clash with France, where his first-half goal clinched a 1-0
victory for Joachim Low's side.
The Bayern Munich centre-back is now considered doubtful for
Sunday's showdown with the winners of the last-four encounter between Argentina
and Netherlands on Wednesday.
He told German radio ARD: "More problems with my knee.
We will find out the exact diagnosis [on Wednesday].
"There won't be a horror diagnosis, and there is hope
that it will be working again in five days. I will definitely need intensive
"If I can't train on Saturday, I wouldn't go and say I
can play on Sunday."
