Harambee Stars held by Ethiopia in CECAFA opener

27 November 2013, 19:00

Nairobi - The Harambee Stars were held to a barren draw by a resolute Ethiopia in their opening clash of the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, Wednesday.

It was a game dominated largely by the home side but they failed to take advantage of good opportunities created by the in-form Allan Wanga and South Africa based David Gateri.

The Ethiopians too created chances of their own and were unlucky not to score on a number of occasions as the game ended in a draw at the break.

The second half was Kenya's too, with captain Francis Kahata creating opportunities that could not be converted.

The Stars then had to survive some nervous moments as the Ethiopians threatened to score but the game ended goalless to the dismay of the size-able crowd at the Nyayo Stadium.

In the earlier game played at the same venue, Zanzibar beat South Sudan 2-1.
