Government warns Gor Mahia on hooliganism

14 November 2014, 14:26

Nairobi - Hassan Wario has moved to congratulate Gor Mahia for their KPL title success, but warned that their fans' hooliganism needs to be "dealt with".

The 2014 season saw K'Ogalo successfully defended the KPL crown they won last year, with new coach Frank Nuttall able to ensure they finished three points clear at the top of the standings.

However, the Nairobi giants' season was plagued by supporter violence, and while proud of Gor's league achievement, Wario has warned against any repeat in the new campaign.

"Gor Mahia are worthy champions. They brought pomp and colour to the league. The KPL would be poorer without you, but the concern of hooliganism must be dealt with," Wario said.

He went on to urge the KPL to also adopt a more professional approach when running the division, adding: "It is time to professionalise the league so that it becomes a serious income generator for the communities around it."
