Gor Mahia keep Double dream alive

12 September 2013, 09:47

Nairobi - Supercharged Gor Mahia are on course for a League and Cup Double after they massacred helpless Shabana Football Club 6-0 in a one-sided GOtv Shield Cup.

The resounding victory Nyayo National Stadium on Wednesday assured the Nairobi-based a potentially action-packed quarter final against old rivals Thika United.

The match is scheduled for September 22.

Goals from double scorers, Kevin Omondi and Dan Sserunkuma, and efforts apiece from Angelo Akumu and Paul Kiongeram. were all Gor Mahia needed to progress into the last eight.

Gor Mahia were the better side from the onset but poor finishing was their biggest letdown.

Were it not for that they could have opened the scoring as early as the seventh minute when  Sserunkuma miscued his effort just from outside the penalty box.

However, they finally broke the jinx in the 4oth minute when Sserunkuma made amends from close range.

The goal opened floodgates for the other marauding Gor Mahia strikers Omondi, Akumu and Kiongeram as they drilled crucial goals to help their club reach the quarter-final.

Winners of this tournament will walk away with a whopping Sh2million prize money. As that was not enough, the winners with also represent Kenya at the continental Confederations Cup next year.
