Gor Mahia back to winning ways

10 April 2014, 10:31

Nairobi - Gor Mahia got their league campaign back on track after dismantling KCB 3-2 in a thrilling Kenyan Premier League (KPL) encounter strongly contested at City Stadium on Wednesday.

The champions, who were on sixth position of the log standing before Wednesday's league match eventually moved a place up to fifth following their slender victory.

Strikers Rama Salim, David Owino and Innocent Mutiso, scored the goals that secured the three vital points.

KCB pulled two goals back through hardworking strikers Chrispinus Odhiambo and Mungai Kiongera.

Had it not been for the brilliant goalkeeping by Jerim Onyango, KCB could have snatched the draw in the dying minutes of the match with Ezekiel Odera, Odhiambo and Kiongera causing anxious moments for the champions.

Ugandan international, Dan Sserenkuma was the toast of the day, combining well with Musa Mohammed to provide clean passes to his fellow Gor Mahia front runners.

Elsewhere, log leaders Tusker narrowly edged Sony Sugar 1-0 to maintain their top spot.

Veteran striker Jesse Were scored the all important goal that made the difference in this match played at Ruaraka grounds.

The round of games was tough for former champions, AFC Leopards, who suffered their second defeat of the season when they lost 1-0 to Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in a match played at Kasarani.

Chemelil Sugar played to a goalless draw against Nairobi City Stars at Hope Centre Grounds Kawangware while Ulinzi Stars beat Stima 1-0 at Mumias.

Ulinzi secured the only goal of the day through sharp shooting forward Steve Waruru.

In Machakos County Stadium, Sofapaka beat Mathare United 2-1 to pick-up the three crucial points while Top Fry AllStars settled to a goalless draw against Bandari FC at Afraha Stadium.

Another draw of the day was registered at City Stadium where Thika United and Muhoroni Youth settled for a goalless one.
