Gor, Chemelil Sugar clash toast of KPL action

19 May 2014, 15:56

Nairobi - The top-of-the-table clash between Gor Mahia and Chemelil Sugar will be the highlight of this week’s round of Kenya Premier League matches.

The match is scheduled for Thursday at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

The eagerly-awaited match kicks-off at 1500 local time with fireworks expected as both clubs eye the league title.

Champions Gor Mahia, who will be away from home, are likely to find the on-form Chemelil Sugar in an uncompromising mood eager to  cut the visitors’ lead at the top of the standings to three points.

The KPL has lined up five league matches for Wednesday.

Elsewhere across the country on Wednesday, third placed Tusker travels to City Stars for a crucial tie at Hope Centre in a do-or-die encounter.

City Stars, who are threatened with relegation, would seek to capitalise on their home advantage to beat Tusker, an ambition that will prove difficult judging by Tusker' current form.

Vastly-improved Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) will host the unpredictable Thika United at Nyayo National Stadium.

KRA are on 4th position of the league table with 20 points from 12 matches played while United lie tenth with 15 points from the same number of games played.

Sofapaka, who lost dismally to defending champions Gor Mahia over the weekend would look to redeem themselves when they host stubborn Bandari at Machakos Stadium.

Sofapaka are on fifth position of the league table with 18 points from 12 league games contested while Bandari are on 11th place with 14 points from
12 matches played.

Muhoroni Youth, who brew a shocker on Sunday when they beat Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) 1-0 to at Nyayo National Stadium hope to capitalise on the home advantage when they host Ulinzi Stars at Muhoroni Stadium.

The last match will pit bottom-placed Top Fry Nakuru against Mathare United at Machakos Stadium.

On Saturday, Sony Sugar will play KCB in a match likely to go either side.
