Nairobi - A last minute gasp goal by Liberian import Prince Freeman saved Thika United from defeat in a 1-1 draw against Rangers FC at Thika Municipal Stadium.
Rangers scored the match opener in the 22nd minute through Aggrey Ongoli after combining well with Edward Kauka to beat David Okello in Thika goal.
The visitors enjoyed large chunk of the game but were let down by poor finishing and they suffered a major blow after instrumental midfielder Edwin Mwaura was seriously injured.
Speaking after the match, Rangers chairman Yobes Ongeri said the absence of injured Mwaura had affected his team’s coordination in the midfield but felt his charges deserved to win the match.
Thika head coach John Kamau said he was happy with the outcome noting that a draw was a fair result, “I think on the tactical level, we delivered a disciplined team effort. Even though we did not win, I believe we showed a lot of fighting spirit and character.”
