Nairobi - Gor Mahia are the new Tusker League champions after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) awarded them maximum points for a match that was abandoned recently.
An FKF committee awarded the Nairobi-based side three points after the match that ended prematurely against Sony Sugar.
That match was abandoned ended prematurely after Gor Mahia scored a disputed goal.
Hosts Sony Sugar viciously contested the goal that brought the scores to two-one.
In the aftermath, it is alleged that Sony Sugar technical bench and players confronted the match officials.
The disputed goal and demonstrations by Sony Sugar provoked fans who caused damage to the match venue.
“We therefore find that Sony Sugar technical bench and the captain initiated the first act and their fans joined in they were responsible for the abandonment. As earlier stated, the calling of the match was a consequence of this act hence, they should be held liable and forfeit the points,” FKF ruled.
The decision leaves Gor Mahia leading the table with 13 points two matches before the end of the campaign.
The “Green Army” has ended an 18-year league title drought.
