A fresh row has erupted between Football Kenya Federation National office and The Mombasa County government which could jeopardize the co-hosting of the CECAFA championships in the Coastal City.
The FKF National office is demanding KES 10 Million from the County government as county remittance fees.
According to a letter signed by the FKF President Sam Nyamweya today on Monday and sent to Mombasa County Minister Hazel Koitaba, the amount is a standard rate for the co-hosting the games in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu and goes into a pool to defray the costs of the tournament.
‘’Kindly but urgently make arrangements to remit the funds and we shall deliver the match tickets as promised. Kindly prepare the LPO for the same to be collected by our committee members during the Wednesday meeting’’ read part of the letter.
The decision has raised eyebrows among the members of the County Local Organizing Committee who feel there is more than meets the eye in the matter.
The Mombasa County has confirmed its willingness to cater for the accommodation, transport, security and other costs for the visiting teams which they state comes from corporate goodwill.
‘’We have no such money to pay to the national federation as county representatives are now on strike and we wholly depend on the goodwill of the corporate to sponsor the teams’’ said a member of the Local Organizing Committee on condition of anonymity.
