FIFA: World Cup is drug free

08 July 2014, 16:08

Nairobi - FIFA have branded the World Cup 'drug free' after the organisation's medical committee reported that there have been no positive doping tests.

More than 1,000 tests have been conducted - 777 out of competition and 232 during the tournament - and none have come back with a positive result.

“We have not found any prohibitive [sic]substances... either prior to or during competition,” FIFA's chief medical officer Jiri Dvorak told a press conference.

The four teams remaining in the competition will continue to be tested until the conclusion of the event.

All tests have taken place at the World Anti-Doping Agency’s laboratory in Switzerland after the agency revoked the license of the drug-testing facility in Rio de Janeiro for failing to meet the necessary standards.
