FA charge Costa

22 September 2015, 08:08

London - Chelsea forward Diego Costa has been charged by the Football Association over an incident that saw Arsenal defender Gabriel sent off in their Premier League clash Saturday.

Spain forward Costa has been charged "for an alleged act of violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video," the FA said in a statement Monday.

"The Chelsea forward was involved in an incident with Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny in the 43rd minute of the game," the FA said. "He has until 6 pm tomorrow to reply."

Costa was given a yellow card for his part in the incident, which began with a clash with Koscielny and eventually saw Gabriel sent off for two yellow cards.

Gabriel was also charged with improper conduct "for his behaviour following his dismissal" while midfielder Santi Cazorla, who was also sent off later in the game, has been warned about his future behaviour.

Both clubs have also been charged for failing to keep their players under control during the match, which Chelsea won 2-0.

Arsenal, meanwhile, said they are appealing the "wrongful dismissal and the three-match ban given to Gabriel".
