London - English Premier League games will be played on Friday nights from the 2016-17 season, extending the weekend of games to four days.
The sales process for 2016-19 television rights started on Friday, with the first tenders issued to domestic broadcasters.
In the auction for the 2013-2016 rights, BT and Sky paid just over 3 billion pounds (then $4.7 billion) in total for 154 live games each season.
From August 2016, the league is making 168 games available in Britain live.
There are seven packages of rights, five with 28 games and two with 14 games. The existing Monday night package will add Friday night games.
No broadcaster can buy more than 126 matches.
The league is yet to open the tender for foreign broadcasters, who can show all 380 games each season live.
