Nairobi - Soccer fans had the rare opportunity of viewing the coveted Barclays English Premier League (EPL) trophy.
This past weekend, the fans thronged the Safari park Hotel in Nairobi for a rare chance to take pictures with the trophy courtesy of sponsors, Barclays Bank.
The financial company’s local Managing Director Jeremy Awori, said the purpose of the tour was to thank the supporters of EPL.
Kenya is among the countries in the world with ardent supporters of the league.
“So what we wanted to do was to give our customers, our fans and our partners an opportunity to interact directly with the premier league trophy. So that is why it was brought here, it is a way of saying thank you and away of recognizing them,” said Awori.
The EPL trophy is among the most coveted prizes in world football.
Manchester United, the most successful club in England and arguably the most popular in the world, are the holders of the accolade.
Weighing, 10kgs, the cup makes its tour amidst anticipation of the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) World Cup trophy that is expected to tour the country on Tuesday next week.
After Kenya, the EPL trophy will be heading to Botswana in accordance with the schedule of its tour.
