Abidjan - Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba has donated €1 million to families of the victims of the coal mine explosion in the Turkish town of Soma where 301 miners perished last week.
The 37-year-old striker made the donation through his foundation and said he was profoundly affected by the incident that occurred in a country where he plied his trade for nearly two years before announcing his departure on Sunday.
“I am a United Nations goodwill ambassador. I will do all what I can to help the people of Soma in Turkey,” Drogba said in a statement on Monday.
