De Jongh backs Wafula to shine

02 September 2014, 09:42

Nairobi - AFC Leopards head coach Pieter de Jongh has expressed his delight at having striker Noah Wafula play alongside star player Jacob Keli.

The 24-year-old is Ingwe's current joint-top scorer, together with Keli and Jackson Saleh, who have three goals apiece thus far.

De Jongh said that he was happy with Wafula's contribution next to his more established strike partner, which has helped Leopards rise up the standings.

"His combination with (Jacob) Keli is so far good. They complement each other," the Leopards mentor told reporters during a press briefing.

"He is young and can take on all those runs, Keli brings in a different aspect and I know we can get goals from them on the pitch.

"He brings a very important physical aspect to each upfront for us. He is ready to get into action at any moment. He takes on the defenders and he is very quick which a key aspect is for a striker."

He added: "He has worked with Austin (Uzoremeke) well too. We will look at other partnerships for our strikers too.

"We have Kenneth Wendo, who also has potential and Michael (Khamati). Young (Denis) Dodi also will get his turn with time as we build a new youthful team for the future."
