Commanding Gor, hapless Leopards face off in 'mashemeji derby'

23 August 2015, 10:50 Dennis Masinde

Nairobi - The biggest clash in Kenyan football circles takes place at the Nyayo National Stadium as league leaders Gor Mahia take on the stuttering AFC Leopards in the renowned 'mashemeji' derby.

The Kenyan Premier League clash will be not so much about the points this time, but the bragging rights and pride, especially for Leopards.

Gor are more or less league champions (56 points) having garnered a double digit lead in the top division, while Leopards (35 points) are way off the pace.

It will however, present Leopards with a chance to take aim at Gor's so far unbeaten streak, which they would love to end.

Leopards coach Zdravko Logarusic is ready for the clash.

" We know it is an important game. It might not be about points and league positions, but we know we want to win for the fans," he said.

His Gor counterpart Frank Nuttal also knows the importance of the game for the fans.

" This is one for the fans and we are keen to give them an early Christmas present," he said.

The match kicks off at 1500 hrs local time.
