Coach of Nigerian champions quits, claims forced out

22 November 2013, 20:58

Abuja - Mohammed Babaganaru announced his resignation as coach of Nigerian champions Kano Pillars on Friday, claiming that he was forced out, despite steering the club to back-to-back league titles.

"I have resigned as coach of Kano Pillars and have tendered my resignation letter to the general manager of the club today," said Babaganaru, who guided Pillars to retain their league championship in October.

"I love Pillars but I was pushed out of the club by some people who do not respect me and never appreciated my efforts. I was forced to quit so as to keep my dignity," he told AFP.

He continued: "There are some on the management board of the club who are after me. This could only be because of personal interest or personal hatred because I did not have problems with the previous management."

The club said only that they accepted his resignation and wished him well for the future but did not comment on his allegations.

Club chairman Abba Yola has previously made it clear that he plans to bring in a new and more experienced coach, as Pillars set their sights on winning the 2014 CAF Champions League after reaching the semi-final in 2009.

Babaganaru said he will sign a contract with another Nigerian Premier League club, Nasarawa United, on Monday.

The former El Kanemi Warriors coach was at Pillars for five seasons, during which he was assistant coach for three seasons and won the league title twice in the two seasons he was in charge.
