Celtic striving for consistency, says Gordon

12 September 2014, 09:32

Glasgow - Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon says the Scottish champions must learn how to grind out results following a run of four matches without a win.

The Hoops have struggled for consistency this season and have taken just seven points from their opening four matches in the Scottish Premiership to leave them languishing in fifth position.

Celtic's last win came back on August 16 when they thumped Dundee United 6-1 but they have lost two and drawn two matches at home and in Europe since then.

Aberdeen are next up for Ronny Deila's side on Saturday following the international break and Gordon hopes the Hoops can start to find their form.

"Right now, we're still striving to get that finished performance. When it has come off, like it did at home against Dundee United, it's worked very well, but we need to learn to grind out a few results as well and try and be a bit more solid and not give as many chances away," the 'keeper said.

"Aberdeen are a good strong squad who are experienced at this level and they acquitted themselves very well in their European games to show what they can do.

"They don't lose a lot of goals and I think they will be one of the main challengers this season.

"I don't think Aberdeen will come and play the same way that Dundee United did. They are going to pose a different challenge that way but the same scoreline would be nice. I'm predicting a really tight game, really tough but hopefully we can get the three points."

 Guidetti set for debut

The Celtic strike force will be bolstered by the inclusion of new striker John Guidetti, after FIFA allowed his season-long loan move from Manchester City to go ahead despite the paperwork being filed after the transfer window had closed.

The striker arrives at Celtic Park on the back of two strong showings for the Swedish Under-21 side and says he is raring to go after struggling to get any game time at his parent club.

"I'm just looking forward to playing football, to scoring some goals and to helping the team win trophies," said Guidetti, 22, who has previously had loan spells at Feyenoord and Stoke City.

"We need to play well in all of the competitions and that starts on Saturday with a big game against Aberdeen.

"It was a long time ago that I had a long run of games and that's what I miss. I would love to hit the ground running but if I don't, it's not like I'm going to stop.

"I'm going to do my very best in every game but it will take time for me to get to know everybody, get to know the way they play and for them to know how I move. It takes time to know each other in that sense."

Elsewhere on Saturday, early league leaders Inverness Caledonian Thistle will aim to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they travel to Glasgow to face Partick Thistle at Firhill.

Jim McIntyre will take charge of bottom-of-the-table Ross County for the first time when they welcome Motherwell to Victoria Park, while St Mirren will attempt to get their first points of the season when they travel to Kilmarnock.
