Carragher: Don't let Terry leave

03 March 2015, 14:43 Wade Pretorius

Cape Town - Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has warned Chelsea against letting John Terry leave in the summer.

The Reds legend, who has since turned his hand to commentary, wrote in a column for the Daily Mail that Terry is "virtually unreplaceable".

Terry's contract is reaching it's conclusion, with the player himself desperate to continue playing for the Blues.

Terry, 34, has been the central figure for Chelsea since the 2000/01 season and continues to be ranked amongst Europe's best defenders, despite being on the wrong side of 30.

Carragher wrote: "John Terry is going to cause Chelsea a huge problem in the future and the cost to fix it will be enormous."

It is hard to disagree with the former Reds defender, who knows a thing or two about solid defending after shining in the Reds defense for years, Terry's performance in the League Cup final again outlined the English defender's quality.

To use Carragher's description, JT's performance was "colossal".

Carragher points out a major concern for Chelsea - Terry was the key figure of Mourinho's League Cup winning side 10 years ago alongside Petr Cech, Claude Makelele, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.

Fast forward 10 years to Sunday and all but Terry have been replaced in the spine of Chelsea's title-chasing side.

Carragher queries the price of replacing Terry, especially considering the inflated market that clubs currently have to do business in.

Manchester City forked out £32 million to bring in Eliaquim Mangala while Chelsea sold David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain for a staggering £50 million. Both of these players are, however, a long way off of Terry's consistent level.

Who, and for how much, can Jose Mourinho bring in to replace John Terry, when it comes time to let him leave the Bridge?
