Brazil take it one step at a time

12 June 2014, 13:13

Sao Paulo - Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has acknowledged that this World Cup campaign will be a lengthy and testing process, adding that the team will take things one step at a time.

Scolari, who has never hidden the fact he feels Brazil are destined to win this World Cup, suggested that the primary objective at this juncture was to secure maximum points against Croatia in their opening fixture on Thursday night.

"We have to go up these seven steps but, to start, we have to think of the first step. We can’t jump the seven," Scolari told journalists this week.

The last time that Brazil hosted a World Cup, in 1950, their hearts were broken by Uruguay in the final match of the tournament. This year’s tournament will provide an opportunity for the hosts to right the wrongs of the past and give the Brazilian people the title they deserve.

"For all Brazilians, I want to say our time has arrived. We want to go together. This is our World Cup," said Scolari.

In the past week, there has been a death in the Scolari family, which he admits has been difficult to deal with at this particular time. However, he insists that not even that will distract him or his Selecao from the task at hand.

"Sometimes we have to deal with some difficulties, but you have to try to move on," added Scolari.
