Nairobi - Ghana
midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng has hit out at coach Kwesi Appiah's
squad selection after the African titans opened their World Cup campaign
The Black Stars were unable to make the most of their possession and
chances as the United States snuck a 2-1 win in the dying moments of
their opening Group G encounter in Natal on Monday.
And Boateng, who came on as a 59th minute substitute, believes Appiah
had overlooked some of his best players for a starting berth, including
the Schalke midfielder himself.
"I was surprised I was left on the bench because the head coach Kwesi
Appiah was supposed to start with his best eleven," Boateng told Football411's Ghana correspondent Russel Wiafe.
"In opening matches you need to start your best players so that you don't lose."
Ghana will now be desperate for victory when they take on Germany in
their second Group G clash on Saturday, and although Boateng was gutted
to go down to the USA, he is confident they can find a response this
"I am really disappointed we lost but we can come back again in our next game," he concluded.
