Battle of the keepers looms as Harambee Stars squad is named

19 November 2013, 14:00

Nairobi - The Harambee Stars squad named by head coach Adel Amrouche will see four top Kenyan Premier League goalkeepers pit their wits against each other.

Gor Mahia's Jerim Onyango, Sofapaka's Duncan Ochieng, SoNy Sugar's Wycliffe Kasaya and Bandari's Wilson Oburu have all been named in the squad to prepare for the competition and all will say they have a right to the number one jersey.

All have been outstanding for their respective clubs and it waits to be seen whom Amrouche will go with between the sticks.

At the back, the surprise inclusion of Ulinzi Stars' veteran defender Mulinge Ndetto has left many asking questions, with the rest of the back players haveing earned their places rightfully.

Peter Opiyo, Teddy Akumu, Paul Were and Francis Kahata will be expected to lead the way in the middle of the park.

Other areas where there will be competition for places will be upfront where Allan wanga, Noah Wafula, Paul Kiongera, Edwin Lavatsa and Jacob Keli will fight it out for a place in the starting line-up.

Many will argue that the squad named is good enough to win the title but Amrouche urges caution.

" It will be tough. We have a good set of players but we have to get them playing together and that will be the main issue for the coming tournament, he said.
