AFC Leopards' CECAFA campaign ends antagonisingly
05 June 2014, 09:31
Khartoum - AFC
Leopards' hopes of winning the inaugural Council for East and Central African
Football Associations (Cecafa) Nile Basin Cup suffered a huge setback when they
were beaten 2-1 by Uganda's Sports Club Victoria University in Khartoum, Sudan
on Wednesday night.
Though AFC Leopards would argue that they played without their two influential
players, Benard Mangoli and Noah Wafula, who were red-carded in the semi-final
against Rwanda's Academie Tchite, the Ugandans were technically, mentally and
psychologically stronger than their Kenyan counterpart.
SC Victoria University scored their crucial goals courtesy the boots of Jacob
Odongo (29th min) and Mutyaba Muzamiru (90th min) to seal the victory while AFC
Leopards responded through Austin Ikkene Ikkene (47th min).
AFC Leopards reached the final after convincingly beating Rwanda's Academie
Tchite 2-0 while the victorious SC Victoria University narrowly edged Al Shandy
1-0 to book berth into the final.
