Nairobi (Xinhua) -- Kenya' s Emily Ngetich will be the top athlete in the women' s field at the Rome Marathon on March 10.
Ngetich, who has not given up hope of making the Kenya team to Rio Olympics, believes she can put in a strong performance in the Italian capital to force her way into the team.
"I believe it is still open for anyone. One performance will be enough to convince the coaches of what I can achieve and who knows, I may make the Rio Olympics team.
"It is every athletes' dream to compete at the Olympics and if given a chance, I believe I will do enough to win a medal," she said Thursday in Nairobi.
Ngetich holds a personal best time of 2:25:14. She is the fastest woman in the elite line-up, which also includes Ethiopians Mulu Diro (2:29:10), Metaferiya Zenebe (2:30:08) and Adhana Desalegn (2:31:25) and home favourite Silvia Weissteiner, who ran a 2:32:35 debut last year to win the Turin Marathon
The fastest runners in the men' s race are Morocco' s Rachid Kisri (2:06:48) and Ethiopians Tariku Jufar (2:06:51), Debebe Tolosa (2:07:41), Alemayehu Belachew (2:09:32) and Kenya' s Silas Cheboit (2:07:15).
Some 16,500 runners are due to take part in this year' s race which is held slightly later in the season than usual.
