Nairobi - The women’s sevens team is confident of qualifying for the International Rugby Board (IRB) Women’s Sevens World Series.

Kenya start their qualification fixtures on September 12 in Hong Kong and will name their squad for the tournament on Friday.

Kevin Wambua, the team’s head coach, said his side would take the qualification matches as they came.

“Our approach is to deal with each game as it comes, and build from there,” he told the Daily Nation.

“Of course with the main aim of securing qualification to the series which next season.”

The Lionesses start their qualification campaign against Japan on Friday 12 September, before facing Fiji and then Argentina later that same day.

They will need to either finish in the top two of the group or finish the group stage as one of the best third placed teams in order to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Only the sides that advance to the semi-finals of the tournament will qualify for next Women’s Sevens World Series.
