Wangeci set for French move

24 June 2015, 15:42

Nairobi - Kenya Pipeline Women's Volleyball Club player Esther Wangeci is set to sign a professional contract with French club Chamalieres.

The right attacker was spotted and approached by Toubani Atman, a coach at the club, after her recent performances.

Kassuja Onyonyi, team manager at Pipelines, told the Star newspaper that the club will not stand in Wangeci’s way.

“Wangeci is employed temporally by the company and so we will have to follow the right procedure,” he said.

“I am aware many players dream of playing professional volleyball abroad. We are happy that one of our own has attracted the attention of European club coaches. That is something to be proud of.

“Just like other players among them (Bracksides) Agala and (Jane) Wacu from Prisons, both attached to Chamalieres last year, have improved tremendously.

“We believe that should Wangeci go, them at the end of the day, we will benefit as a club and the national team at large.”

Atman also approached Evelyne Makuto, who was voted most valuable player at the recently concluded African Nations Championship, which Kenya won.

He Kenya Prisons team mate and fellow left attacker, Mercy Moim, was also approached but is said to still be considering the offer.
