Under 19 rugby side kicks off in Namibia

26 August 2014, 13:02

Nairobi - The local Under-19 rugby team is in Windhoek, Namibia where they will play in the Confederation of African Rugby’s (CAR's) Division 1A Championships that kicks off today.

According to the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), Chipu, the U-19 team will play Zimbabwe in a semi final fixture at 3.00pm East African Time (GMT+3) with hosts and defending champions Namibia face Tunisia in the second semi final fixture at 5.00pm East African Time.

KRU is hopeful that the youthful team will put in a better show from last year’s tournament.

“Kenya were losing finalists last year, falling to Namibia and missing out on a ticket to the 2014 International Rugby Board’s (IRB's) Junior World Rugby Trophy (JWRT),” said KRU in a statement.

The U-19 team travelling to Namibia consists of 24 players, two coaches -Paul Murunga (Head Coach), Nick Aballa (Assistant Coach/Team Manager) - and a physiotherapist.

According to the CAR, the third place and the final will take place on Saturday. The winner will qualify for the JWRT U20 IRB 2015, while the 4th team will be relegated the Group B.
