Nairobi - Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) through their flagship brand Tusker Lager
on Tuesday unveiled their three year KES 75 million sponsorship
package of the Kenya 15s team.
Kenya will be taking part in South
Africa’s Vodacom Cup in March and April and will be involved in the 2015
Rugby World Cup (RWC) qualifiers in June and July where they will face
Madagascar, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
“Kenyan Rugby has grown in leaps and
bounds largely due to the memorable performances of our national sevens
team in the IRB Sevens Series. However- as any rugby purist will tell
you-the 15 man game is what real rugby is all about hence our reason for
being here today,” said Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) Managing Director
Kenya will be based in Cape Town and
will play in the south section of the competition. They open their
campaign against Eastern Province Kings on March 8th.
“South Africans are renowned for their
physical brand of rugby and it will be interesting to see how Kenya will
respond in that kind of environment in the next two months. As a
nation, we are confident that Kenya will rise up to the challenge they
face in the coming months and produce a stellar performance and be ready
for the World Cup qualifiers in July,” said Mr. Muganda.
Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Chairman Mwangi
Muthee thanked Tusker for sponsoring the team and hailed the brand for
their enduring support of rugby.
“It’s universally known that Tusker has
always been a keen supporter of rugby in Kenya. The package being
unveiled today is crucial to Kenya’s qualification for next year’s Rugby
World Cup in England,” said Mr. Muthee.
“Playing in the competition will offer
great exposure and experience for the team, this is something we cannot
take for granted. The high performance environment will definitely
enhance our qualification chances when we proceed to Madagascar for the
CAR Cup which this year serves as the final round of World Cup
qualification," he added. For the latest on national news, politics, sport, entertainment and more follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page!
