Top four face off in Kenya Cup rugby week 10
24 January 2014, 10:04
Nairobi - The matches are winding down thick and fast in the Kenya Cup regular season, plenty of fights at the opposite ends of the table.
The fight for the four semi final slots
intensifies this weekend when the current top four face off in what
should pass for the top bill fixtures when match day ten takes place on
Saturday 25 January 2014.
Former champions Lunch Bar Quins welcome
current champions and leaders Top Fry Nakuru to the RFUEA Grounds in
what should be a cracker of a tie. Quins have a game in hand, having
collected 32 points courtesy of six wins and two losses and come into
this tie looking to register a result against their opponents.
Head Coach Enos Otieno, who began his
rugby playing career at Nakuru will look to tame a Nakuru outfit that
has been in imperious form all season. He will look to have a side that
is competitive and combative all round and will count on the leadership
of Wilson Kopondo, the experience of Tony Mutai as well as the
organizational capabilities of Lyle Asiligwa and Isaac Adimo if he is to
emerge victorious on Saturday.
Top Fry Nakuru have won all nine of
their outings to date, only failing to collect a bonus last weekend when
they beat Nondies 19-8 in Nakuru. Head Coach Dominique Habimana is a
former Quins forwards coach and definitely knows a thing or two about
his former side. He has in his ranks players like Dallo Chituyi, Lawi
Buyachi and Edwins Makori who will be critical to his ambitions of
defeating Quins as the Wanyore look to register a tenth win on the
Second placed KCB welcome third placed
Strathmore Leos at The Lions Den in Ruaraka. Last season's corresponding
tie ended in a 16-16 stalement. KCB have registered six straight bonus
point wins and will look to register another result against the Leos on
Saturday. Curtis Olago will look to the likes of Curtis Lilako, Oliver
Mang'eni and Darwin Mukidza to guide the Lions to another win.
The Leos on the other hand know that a
win over the bankers will see them return to second place and they will
surely rely on Kenny Andola, Tony Onyango, Adrian Opondo and Maki Sikuku
to make the difference and deliver the result on Saturday.
There will be five other fixtures. Fifth
placed Homeboyz are in with an outside chance of reaching the playoffs
and they host ninth placed Blak Blad at the Strathmore Grounds in
Sixth placed Nondies are another side
harboring playoff ambitions and they welcome second from bottom Eldoret
to the Jamhuri Park. Seventh placed Western Bulls welcome Mean Machine
to the The Bull Ring at Kakamega High School while tenth placed Impala
host bottom of the table Kisumu at the Impala Club.
Eighth placed Mwamba will play Mombasa SC at the UoN Grounds
