Nairobi - Athletics Kenya (AK) is confident the relay team it sent to the World Championships in Bahamas would bring home medals.
Team Kenya coach, Sammy Rono, was upbeat ahead of the World Championships over the weekend saying his athletes would defy the hot weather conditions to bring glory back to Kenya.
The strong women and men's teams were boosted by cash incentives from the country's leading mobile cellular network, Safaricom, who promised hefty cash payouts of Sh1 million to gold medalists, KES 600,000 for silver and KES 400,000 to bronze winners.
A strong women's 4 x 800m team will be spearheaded by Eunice Sum, Janeth Jepkosgei and Agatha Jeruto while men's will boast the experience of Commonwealth Games 400m champion Mark Mutai and Silas Kiplagat, who will lead the 4x400metre relay teams.
Commenting ahead of the team's departure on Wednesday, Jepkosgei, said Team Kenya boasted experience and would excel.
“We have very experienced athletes in the team branded with newly nurtured young athletes, who are capable of winning,” said Jespkosgei.
The country will participate in the men’s 4x200m, 4x400m, 4x800m and 4x1,500m while women will battle out in the 4 x800m and 4x1500m at the World Championships.
