Nairobi - Kenya Swimming Federation (KSF) will send a strong contingent of swimmers to represent the country at the upcoming Africa Youth Games in Gaborone, Botswana.
The event is scheduled for May 22 – 31.
The strong swimming squad selected for the tour of duty in Botswana comprise Kimani Maina, Emily Muteti, Naim Bayusuf, Torry Pragassa, Daniela Awori, Nobby Obuya, Sahil Harunnani, Anita Field, Martha Opiyo, Ger Ogot and Micah Fernandez.
For the 10 selected youths, Muteti boasts victories at the CANA Zone 3 and 4 Championship in Uganda last weekend where she won gold medal in both 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle events.
Another potential swimmer, Awori, who won accolades in under 15-16 age group, will be Kenya's hopeful in Botswana with Maina being one of the top 200m backstroke Kenyan swimmers.
Presently, Kenya has some of its youthful swimmers based in South Africa and the United States, making them competitive.
“From what we saw in Uganda, I think we can expect medals from the swimmers selected for Botswana. Although the competition will be tough, I still expect the swimmers to snatch medals,” KSF Information Officer, Winnie Kamau, said.
All locally-based swimmers would converge on Monday in Kasarani while those that based abroad would link with Team Kenya in Botswana.
