Nairobi - After excelling in CAF club championships last weekend, Kenyans have shifted attention to their athletic teams bound for Uganda.
There is strong belief that the athletes will stand their ground and rake accolades.
This follows Athletic Kenya’s (AK’s) announcement of athletes to represent the country at the third Africa Cross Country Championships set for Uganda on March 16.
AK announced a strong squad comprising both men and women to participate in the 6km, 8km and 12km competitions, a move selected coaches believe would be achieved.
Having swept almost all accolades at the AK/KCB national cross country championships contested at Uhuru Gardens last Saturday, the athletes hope the same feat would happen again in Uganda.
The team will be spearheaded by former world junior cross country champion Faith Kipyegon and World junior silver medalist Leonard Barsoton while Agnes Chebet, the world junior bronze medalist and Africa 5000m junior champion Moses Mukono will lead the junior teams.
AK also assigned tried and tested coaches for the Uganda assignment comprising Cornelius Omayala and Gregory Kilonzo while two physiotherapists Minah Quantai and Daniel Korir would ensure victory for Kenya is certain.
Managers to oversee the participants and coaches include Francis Afundi, David Leting and Alice Adala.
The athletic squad bound for Uganda comprise:
Moses Mukono, Emmanuel Bett, Andrea Loret, John Langat, Elvis Cheboi, Hillary Langat;
-Faith Chepng’etich, Peris Chepchirchir, Emily Chebet, Janet Kisa, Beatrice Mutai, Alice Aprot;
- Agnes Chebet, Lilian Kasait, Nancy Nzisa, Mbithe Nzisa, Roseline Chepng’etich, Loyce Chemnung.
