Sevens team dedicate win to Westgate terror victims

Nairobi - The triumphant national rugby team has dedicated its Safaricom Sevens title to the victims of the Westgate terror attack.
A day after the widely condemned attacks that have left about 62 dead and scores injured in the mall, the Sevens side thrashed the fancied Australian side 40-7 on Sunday.
“We would prefer to unite with our sisters and brothers in portraying solidarity with fellow Kenyans who have succumbed in the deadly attack. As a team with our devoted fans we dedicate our struggle to them and assure the world that we are strong and united at such times,” the emotional team captain, Oscar Ouma, said in Kasarani.
Kenya had a productive outing in the Sevens tournament. Its second string side, the Moran, overpowered the impressive Western Province of South Africa 12-10 to secure third place.
The Kenyan sides have been praised for their bravery considering they were facing psychological distraction arising from the weekend terrorist attack at the shopping mall.
The victorious team will be heading for the HSBC Sevens World Series at the Gold Coast Sevens scheduled for October 12 and 13.
The Kenyan team is in the same Pool with favorites New Zealand, Australia, Tonga and USA, in Group A.
