Sevens spotlight shines on top seed

06 August 2014, 18:36

Nairobi - The Safaricom Sevens Series continues this weekend with the spotlight on the top four seeds at this weekend’s Safaricom Dala Sevens.

KCB, Lunch Bar Quins, Homeboyz and Pan Africa Strathmore Leos are seeded.

Defending series champions KCB have not won the Dala Sevens since 2006 but this weekend they top Pool A and face matches against Mwamba, Total Nondies  and the Technical University of Kenya (TUK).

According to the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) KCB  are on a 26-match unbeaten streak in the series, their last defeat in sevens rugby coming in August 2013.“They have since bagged four tournament titles in succession and will be tasked with first, getting out of the pool stage and surviving the knock out stage if they are to win a fifth successive tournament and consolidate their lead atop the standings,” read a KRU statement ahead of Dala Sevens.

Kabeberi runners-up Lunch Bar Quins won the last of their two titles in 2012 and despite losing last weekend’s final to KCB, remain positive that they can carry the momentum in their pool B clashes with Top Fry Nakuru, Daystar Falcons and Egerton Wasps.

Of the top four seeds, Homeboyz face fixtures in Pool C on Saturday against Western Bulls, as well as last weekend’s surprise package Catholic Monks and hosts Kisumu RFC.

Pan Africa Strathmore Leos won the Dala Sevens title last year and play out of Pool D with Resolution Impala Saracens, Blak Blad and Mean Machine.
