Safaricom reveals increased sponsorship

14 July 2014, 18:58

Kasarani - Safaricom has revealed a KES50.5million sponsorship for the upcoming Safaricom Safari Sevens and the National Sevens Series (NSS) events.

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore confirmed that KES45.5m will go towards sponsoring the Safaricom Safari Sevens event, which takes place between September 26 and 28 in Kasarani.

The other KES5m will go towards the NSS, with each hosting club getting a million to cover their costs.

“Sevens rugby is more than just a sport to Kenyans. It is a unifying embodiment of Kenya's competitive spirit,” Collymore said when he handed over the sponsorship cheque to Kenya Rugby Union President Mwangi Muthee last week.

The Kabeberi Sevens event, which takes place on the weekend of August 2 and 3, will be the first leg of the NSS season, while Dala Sevens will be the second, the week thereafter.
