Nairobi - Following the expiry of his contract with the South African Sevens team, coach Paul Treu is expected to open talks with the
Kenya Rugby Union (KRU).
Treu is set to travel to Nairobi for the highly-anticipated negotiations with KRU ahead of HSBC Sevens World Series to be held in Australia between October 11 and 12.
KRU chairperson, Mwangi Muthee, confirmed Treu as favorite to replace Mike Friday who resigned, leaving a huge gap in the national sevens team.
Felix Ochieng has been coaching on acting capacity.
While Treu is heavily tipped to take over, Muthee however refused to get ahead of himself.
“Until we put pen on paper, then we will know who our National Sevens coach is,” he said.
KRU vice chairperson, Sasha Mutai, has reiterated that negotiations are on top gear to secure signature of the South African tactician.
The Union is reportedly looking forward to hire the 42-year-old coach in time to lead the team at the Dubai Sevens that will take place between November 29 and 30.
KRU had earlier looked set to announce the highly-rated Treu until it emerged his contract was only expiring at the end of September.
