Birmingham - David Rudisha won the 600m event at the Birmingham Grand
Prix at the Alexander Stadium on Tuesday.
While he ran a fourth best ever time for the event at 1:13.71, his target had
been the 1:12.81 world record set by Johnny Gray.
“Today wasn’t so bad,” Rudisha told standardmedia.co.ke.
“This is my first 600m, so I guess it was difficult to judge the pace. I think
I tried my best.”
Meanwhile, in the women’s two mile race, Mercy Cherono lead a Kenyan clean-weep
of the medals. Cherono crossed the line in 9:11.49 and was followed by
Viola Kibiwot and Genzebe Didaba in second and third respectively.
Also in action for Kenya was 3000m steeplechase champion Jaruis Birech, who
continued his dominant form to win gold in 8:07.78. Birech was 70m ahead of
second place and broke the meeting record by an astonishing 12 seconds.
