Pros beat juniors at Challenge Trophy

28 August 2014, 21:05

Nairobi - The Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) outscored the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) and Kenya Golf Union (KGU) national team as they won the Rapid Golf Challenge Trophy at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club course Wednesday.

PGK finished the tournament with 49 points, with JGF second with 38 and the national team third with 33. Simon Ngige, who helped the pros to victory, told the Daily Nation that the juniors performed well.

“These juniors are very good and next year they should play off scratch as opposed to being given some strokes,” Ngige said.

His fellow professional Dismas Indiza was equally complimentary about Naomi Wafula, who lead the juniors to their impressive finish.

“This girl (Wafula) is tough. I think now she needs to be playing out there in the international scene,” said Indiza.

The three day event is the first of a series of eight tournaments to take place between now and May 2015. It also served as preparation for the national team’s title challenge at the upcoming East Africa Challenge Cup in Entebbe, Uganda.
